Gary’s attention to detail by making notes and being a good listener, as well as his good judgement, made building my home enjoyable. He delivers timely and useful information regarding selection decisions, provides unprompted updates on a frequent basis, and was respectful of my needs, all while keeping the project on time and on budget. I know that I have not been the easiest of clients, as I have a very high service expectation of everyone involved in my home. I am writing this testimonial Excalibur Custom Homes and Gary Richardson because of the professional work he and his staff did building our three thousand square foot combo two bedroom suite and three bay garage and office.
Gary takes great ride in the work that he and his workers do. From start to Finish Gary was involved and came up with many suggestions for improvements. The following are examples:

how the land could be better utilized for the building which added value to our property by taking the soil and building an additional road on our property for storage
Putting in a storage space above the two garages
Due to the land usage suggestion we did not have to install a pump for our sewage system but could use gravity feed instead
installed a cedar mantle that really finished the fireplace and suggested sconce lighting for the great room that finished the room with an extra touch
saved us substantial money with suggesting the garage and house get painted by the same painter

The third garage was built with a high ceiling and is used to store a bobcat and excavator.

When the installed installed the overhead fan for the stove it was not u to Gary’s standard and he had them come back and redo it. He did this with the drywallers and painters if the finishes were not done properly and up to his standards.

Gary’s detail for finishing is reflected in the suite and the garage and office.

Gary coordinated the trades to come in one after another When they were supposed to show up they did. As you know, trades come and go when they want. Gary’s good working relationship with them ensured they were prompt and efficient and in the end, saved us money.
Gary would come up with suggestions whereby we could do some of the work and save on the cost of the building. The finished product was first class. Everyone who has gone through the building comments on the finish anyhow great it looks.

We have no problem in recommending Gary for any building project where it is commercial building or a home. His workmanship speaks for itself.

I am writing this testimonial Excalibur Custom Homes and Gary Richardson.

I wanted to update my old kitchen in my condo. Gary had to work in a confined space, work within hours that would not offend my neighbors and get rid of the materials that were no longer required in an orderly fashion.

The work was carried out professionally and efficiently. Gary was able to resolve issues such as an uneven cement floor with tiles that transitioned were at different heights and wiring that had to be hidden due to cement walls and floors.

Gary âme up with the idea of adding lighting by building and installing a bulk head and adding lighting into glass doors in the cupboards.
The work was done professionally and the apartment was left clean and no one would have known the construction took place.
If you are looking for renovation work to be done professionally and without problems, I highly recommend Gary and his company to do that work.

Condo renovationThis letter is to serve as my formal recommendation for Gary Richardson of Excalibur Custom Homes. While Building Inspector for the City of Nanaimo I had the opportunity to work with Gary on building permit applications and on-site inspections for both simple residential and complex commercials building projects. Gary showed a high leel of respect and appreciation for both my time and experience. Gary worked diligently to coordinate his project with our office and to make sure all his work was compliant with both City of Nanaimo Bylaws and the BC Building Code.

Gary Richardson of Excalibur Custom Homes was employed by Wayne and Diana Slemp to prepare and build our custom engineered 4,000 sq. ft. walkout basement home from June 2007 to completion on June 2008.

Gary was responsible for the building operation of hiring all contractors and all logistics arrangement and oversell all daily operations.

Gary performed all these tasks competently and with commitment and enthusiasm. He has demonstrated the ability to work well under pressure and to plan and organize successfully to meet tight deadlines. He is close attention to detail has resulted in meticulous and accurate work. His strong interepersonal and communication skills have allowed him to develop good working relationships.

We hired Gary Richardson of Excalibur Custom Homes (ECH) for the building of our home in 2010. We had recently purchased a lovely treed two acres in Nanaimo and after talking to several different builders, a couple of previous customers of ECH and meeting with Gary on a number of occasions, we agreed to partner with Gary to bring our vision to life.

As we had never been involved in the construction of our previous homes, this was a new experience for us. W had many ideas of what we wanted and what we did not want and Gary was try observant and respectful of our wishes. We found him to be try knowledgeable and able to offer valuable insight that saved us time, money and frustration.

As we lived on the property during the construction period it gave us the opportunity to see the work ethic that Gary adheres to. He and his crew were always on time to the worksite and he expected the same from any subcontractors he hired. Th work site was kept tidy and safe at all times. As per our wishes, the language and conduct of those at the site were always professional and we had no concerns with family or guests of ours that may be coming nd going from our resident onsite during the construction period.

We are happy to report that our house was completed well ahead of schedule and on budget. We would not hesitate to recommend Gary and his company foray construction project. As we have been in our home for just over a year now, we can report that the quality of his work is of the highest calibre. Comments from friends, family and others from the construction industry who have viewed our home have been nothing but praise for a job well done.

Excalibur Custom Homes recently completed an extensive exterior renovation on our home, including a new roof, all new windows and exterior doors, all related trim on the interior and exterior, wiring, all new hardiplank siding, gutters and a new exposed aggregate and stamped driveway in April and May of 2012.

The renovation work involved the efforts of your professional sub-trades to complete phased demolition work, structural reinforcement, electrical and mechanical upgrades; as well as drywall, painting, custom cabinetry and hardwood flooring installation. The ceramic tile flooring and backsplash work in the new kitchen, bar, and washroom areas was also completed very professionally throughout the three phases of the project.
